The Dog Has Arrived

2005-03-14 at 11:45 p.m.

You find me now a co-owner to a small dog. Mum and dad brought him back on Saturday, and we all got introduced. He's an affectionate little thing, though you can definitely have too much of this, as I feel distinctly pawed now. I can barely sit down before he's jumping at my knees, trying to bite my elbow, slobbering on my shirt or nosing at me. Plus he finds my mother's leg alluring, but we're trying to train him out of that. He was scared of stairs but we persuaded him to go up them at least yesterday so he takes to training quite well. He can't manage the steps in the house yet though thats no bad thing as it means we can escape from him if he gets too much. I've been walking him twice a day so far, and he seems to like it though he has an unfortunate tendency to bark at passersby or else stare at them until they tell him he's pretty.

Actually I'm exhausted now. I'm getting more exercise than normal, walking Guinness about, and also he gets up at 8 ish in the morning, and needs to be let out and walked otherwise he has accidents in his cage. He had one of those this morning, and cried so loudly mum and I both ended up getting up. Thats our biggest problem so far actually, trying to get him to go to the toilet is proving somewhat difficult, though hopefully he'll get the hang of it soon enough.

I had an interview this morning, well more of a test than an interview, for the Foreign Office. Huge numbers of other people were taking it too and I don't think I did very well on the maths bit so I'm not too hopeful. Afterwards I went to sign on at the Jobcentre and also incidentally signed off as we're going up north sometime soon.

Afterwards I read In the Company of Cheerful Ladies by Alexander McCall Smith which I spotted in W H Smiths and had to buy.

Really, thats about it, I feel ready to drop asleep at any moment but I'm trying to force myself to stay awake as I have my course tomorrow and if I wake up too early I shall fall asleep during the class.
