So let me walk straight...

2005-01-13 at 9:29 p.m.

I meant to update properly some time ago, but caught up in my course stuff.

Well, I enjoyed the winter holidays, and I had quite a good time. I saw the family - it was nice to see my grandparents again, and then after New Year I went up to Edinburgh to stay with Shirley.

There was drink taken, as there always is when I see Shirley (who is, as her dad said, an "infamous drunkard"). I went up there with two bottles of wine, which I meant to give to her and her husband as a thank you for putting up with me sleeping on their sofa for days. But we drank them. Well, them and then 16 cans of Carlsberg between the two of us and somehow managed not to die after all that! I also met Shirley's infamous friend Charlene and her cousin Darren, of whom I have heard so much but never met before. They weren't half so scary as I was imagining either. I didn't drink on the day they were there though, as I was recovering from the Great Binge. I managed to see Neil when Shirley was at the gym (she's wanting to be a police officer, so training for their test). He's working in the Tescos and not doing so much of the political stuff as he was at university which makes it quite strange to talk to him. We were very close friends for years and then I managed not to talk to him for about a year which made it rather strange (not to mention difficult) to talk to him. Not bad though, and we had a few pints and it got easy!

Saw Shirley's parents on the last day I was there, in fact I nearly missed the last train south because of them. This happened the last time I met them as well - they're great ones for buying drink. Which is of course excellent, me being poor and all, but tends to distract you! We ended up sitting in the Scotsmans Lounge, a pub off the Royal Mile, listening to pipe music and talking drunkenly. Some old git liked me a little too much and I had to run off, and another bloke thought I was with the police. There was also nearly a fight. It was that sort of pub. Nice beer though. Had to make a hurried dash to the train but I did manage to get it.

Now that I've updated you on the latter half of my holiday, onto more recently. I had my courses on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and I got back two biology assignments (82 and 89.5% respectively). I have a biology test in a couple of weeks and an assessed physics practical next week and the week after, a test. Not fun! Still it was quite interesting the lesson and it'll be interesting, I suppose, to find out how well I'm doing.

Today I went and bought myself a monthly travel card using my nice discount card - but it was still £28 which is shocking! Then I got the tube up to near Harley Street which is where the clinic at which I am having my work experience tomrrow is located. Then I had to go to Employment Solutions where the lack of any help, stationery, or newspapers has made me even more determined to complain about them as soon as I sign off!

And really, thats about it. I am contemplating making a new website, as ever, but cannot decide what to put on it. Never mind. And now I'm off to continue my fruitless search for an mp3 of "Its Saturday Night" by the Proclaimers (just showing you my terribly sad musical taste!)
