Reading

2004-11-21 at 11:40 p.m.

I'm sure my memory is going, I can't recall for the life of me when I last wrote or, indeed, what I've been doing since. Well, forgive the exaggeration, I do remember some things.

I've been reading a book by Poppy Z Brite, who I originally thought was a writer for teenagers. Um, got that one a bit wrong. Must be rather embarassing being given a name like Poppy and growing up to be a horror writer though. Actually, the book I'm reading (Lost Souls) is turning out to be rather good. Much, much more explicit than most of the things I read, but not gratuitous. The reason I've almost stopped reading sci-fi is the gratuitous sex (if you want titillation, why not read an erotica novel?) but this fits. Quite cool, though not so good as Lovecraft. But then, he was the master of purple-prose horror so thats only to be expected.

Anyway, on another note...I'm not sure I actually have another note. Tomorrow I have to go and get my New Deal signing on thing, as I'm now classed as long-term unemployed. Not sure how that's going to go, as they can force me into things, but I hardly remember what the New Deal is all about now. I was in on the launch, but that was in 97, and I was bored. The evil souls at the Jobcentre have arranged my appointment for 9am (which is a time I haven't seen for quite a long while now) but you cannot refuse them, or they assume you're working. Bugger. Still, I'm planning to make a day of it, and go up to the west end after, and buy some clothes. And in happy expectation of being given GTA:San Andreas for my birthday next week, I'm going to buy a cheat disk for it, as I am sadly inept at playing games.

I guess thats about it, so I'm off to bed, I think. Though frankly I doubt I'll sleep as I've been going to sleep at 7am all week.
