Actually Met Someone I Know

2004-08-07 at 12:21 a.m.

Well, the most exciting thing that happened today is that I've figured out how to make my fridge colder...

But yesterday was quite interesting. I had an interview at ten, with the Church Times people. Except that I managed to completely overestimate how long it takes to get to Islington and arrived an hour early. Fortunately Islington is full of coffee shops so I settled myself in one and read a PG Wodehouse story for an hour. It was also quite handy because London is terribly humid at the moment, so you sweat buckets. Which is not a nice state to turn up at an interview. The interview itself went quite well, I think, though I was shocked to learn that two hundred people applied for one maternity-cover job at a small, religious newspaper! Eek. Still it would be an interesting job, don't know whether I'll get it or not.

Afterwards, I came home and went to meet Shirley, who happened to be in London because Graham (her husband) was on a course. So we wandered off to Southwark and had lunch, then sat in a pub for a while. Then Graham wanted us to meet him so we did, and then adjourned to yet another pub. We stayed there till closing time though I stopped drinking alcohol as my tolerance for it has apparently hit a new low, as I found myself slurring words after two pints. Thats too embarassing for people to see, especially pissheads like Shirley, so I switched to coke. It was good, and nice to see people again though I discovered that I talk so little now that my throat got dry and I couldn't stop coughing with the unusual effort.

I'm going up north sometime next week. Had a row with dad because he says they don't want me staying by myself for another week because I don't have any friends in London. Why is one week okay, but if I was alone for two, something unspecified and unpleasant would happen? Eh? Weird. I just enjoy being on my own, and like being able to walk around the house in this heat wearing short sleeves rather than those bloody shirts all the time. Sadly, although my scars have all gone white, they're raised and noticeable. Still at least up in northumberland it will be cooler.

Well, thats about it. I must email Elf though, because I've managed to forget the password to her diary.
