Tis Cool in the North

2004-06-12 at 11:19 p.m.

Well, I'm up in the North now and it is much cooler than in London! No more being sweaty all the bloody time, as there is actually a nice cool breeze here.

Went on a little boat to the Farne Islands today. They're protected and you can only land at certain times, so we just took a ride round them. Saw seals (showing off the passersby as they do), puffins (much smaller than they look on the pictures, though very cute) and a variety of seabirds and their very smelly nesting places. Thats why its protected, you see, because a ton of protected birds nest on the islands.

Very nice day, all blue seas and nice wind, a bit choppy but as I never get seasick thats not a problem for me. I even managed to get out of the boat without falling arse over tit and embarassing myself so thats a plus.

Unfortunately we left rather late to go to Seahouses, so I didn't get much of a look round but never mind. We might be going to Amble market tomorrow, as they have a good market and I can get Shirley some dog conditioner for Louis. Depends whether I wake up or not, I'm still very tired.

Speaking of sleep I got a new bed yesterday, nice iron thing which doesn't stick springs in my back or cut my legs so very nice. Need to get rid of the bed-settee now though as i have hardly any room left with it.

We're being overrun with books at the moment. I desperately need to throw out, sell, whatever some of them, as we have hardly any room in the house left. We have about ten bookcases full here, and another five in London, and still we have boxes and boxes of books. One of these days you'll find us living in a tiny space, with the rest of the house devoted to books. Of course I wouldn't mind that but mum and dad seem to want to use the house for some reason. But me? Give me books, and I'm happy. I'll even read dodgy romances if I'm stuck for a book. But at the moment I'm looking forward to re-reading my Ian Rankin books - he writes crime novels, and I like his hero guy. Better than Colin Dexter, whose hero (Morse) is a creep, frankly, and evidently wish-fulfillment of the author, making this middle-aged guy oddly attractive to young girls. Yeah, like that would happen. Obvious case of a mary sue in action, that is, and unusual to find it in a bestselling author.

But away from books for a moment. I'm hoping I left the house nice and tidy in London as dad goes back on Monday (we're not going till next Sunday) and hoping I removed any stray cigarette packets etc from the house! Not that the consequences would be terrifying if I didn't, I guess, I could be on the game or something, that would be worse.

Not much else to say, hoping to do some more interesting things through the week, and also work on that fanfic of mine a little more.
